Rakvere Metsaühistu
The Rakvere Metsaühistu was founded in 1992. In 2000, the legal form was changed and the Rakvere Metsaühistu became the only forest owner’s association in Estonia to operate as a commercial association. In mid-2024, we celebrated the joining of our 1000th forest owner.
There are other additional firsts setting it apart – in 2005, the Management Board and the General Meeting were the first in Estonia to establish Best Practices for Private Forestry, the use of which has also been adopted. The Best Practices for Private Forestry were also endorsed in the same form at the general meeting of the Estonian Private Forest Union.
Rakvere Metsaühistu was also the first, and for a long time the only, association in Estonia to hold an FSC forest manager certificate. As of October 2023, it was decided to suspend the group certificate indefinitely due to the high costs involved and the low level of interest from the forestry industry, authorities, and environmental organisations.
